Claims companies

Recent years have seen the proliferation of Claims Management Companies - sometimes known as Claims Farmers.

Such companies advertise extensively in the media particularly TV and the internet. Some Claims Companies have been subject to adverse publicity as a result of their unorthodox activities in signing up accident victims.

These companies have huge advertising budgets. It is important for people who contact them to understand that what they do is to sell your claim to a solicitor. At present all solicitors, regardless of specialist expertise or quality marks, are allowed to pay referral fees to Claims Farmers and others who wish to refer cases to them. The usual fee is a few hundred pounds.

As well as being paid a referral fee many Claims Companies will often make money by selling accident victims After The Event insurance policies upon which they receive commissions. Such policies may or may not be necessary or suitable for the particular claim.
